Another Pro-Life Betrayal by a “Pro-Life” Governor

Pro-life Virginians are frustrated to learn Governor Bob McDonnell effectively opposes the heart of the ultrasound bill (SB484) many people worked hard to pass. In a statement released from his office today, McDonnell said:

“I believe there is no need to direct by statute that further invasive ultrasound procedures be done. Mandating an invasive procedure in order to give informed consent is not a proper role for the state. No person should be directed to undergo an invasive procedure by the state, without their consent, as a precondition to another medical procedure.”

Perhaps pro-life Virginians shouldn’t be surprised. After all, Governor McDonnell has established quite a track record of using heavy pro-life rhetoric, but then “tweaking” pro-life measures to make them meaningless.

Maybe we need to redefine what it means to be ‘pro-life.’ Or maybe Bob McDonnell already has.
