Choose Life Plates Ruled Unconstitutional

NC Choose Life license plateA federal judge has ruled that North Carolina’s “Choose Life” license plate represents unconstitutional viewpoint discrimination. The ruling from District Judge James C. Fox of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina was issued in a lawsuit filed by the American Civil Liberties Union of North Carolina Legal Foundation.

The order made permanent Judge Fox’s preliminary injunction from that prohibited the production of the plate because of what the court said was viewpoint discrimination represented by the absence of a pro-choice plate.

According to ABC 11 News, the Attorney General’s Office has not decided whether to appeal the ruling to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. That Court ruled against South Carolina’s “Choose Life” license plate in 2004.
