Majority Still Wants Traditional Marriage
Despite the disappointing outcomes in four states that voted on the issue of marriage on November 6, a national poll conducted on Election Day found that a large majority of voters define marriage as between one man and one woman. The poll, which was conducted for the National Organization for Marriage, surveyed 800 “randomly selected people who had actually voted”.
It found that 60 percent of voters agreed that “marriage is between one man and one woman.” A similar poll in September found that 57 percent of randomly selected likely voters supported the “definition of marriage as only between one man and one woman.”
Narrow margins of voters in Maine, Maryland, and Washington voted in favor of legalizing same-sex “marriage” while voters in Minnesota became the second in the nation to reject a Marriage Protection Amendment.
