Barack Obama’s secretary of Housing and Urban Development has announced a new “Equal Access to Housing Rule” that it says will insure homosexuals and transgenders have the right to live where they chose.
HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan made the announcement Saturday in Baltimore at the 24th National Conference on LGBT Equality. Donovan said the new rule includes a new equal-access provision that prohibits owners and operators of HUD-funded housing, or housing whose finances comes through that federal agency, from even inquiring about an applicant’s sexual orientation or gender identity, or denying housing on that basis. Homosexuals and transgenders are also now eligible for taxpayer-funded voucher programs.
