TAKE ACTION: PA House May Require All Hospitals to Offer Abortion-Inducing Drug
During the week of October 8, 2007, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives may vote on a bill that would require all state hospitals, regardless of religious affiliation, to offer the Morning-After Pill to any woman who has been sexually assaulted. The pill is considered to be abortion-inducing by most pro-life advocates, since it has been shown to cause a woman’s uterus to reject a newly-fertilized human being.

The following are excerpts from a October 3, 2007 article appearing in The Philadelphia Inquirer.
“Bill: Hospitals must offer Plan B in rapes”
By Angela Couloumbis, The Philadelphia Inquirer – October 3, 2007Lawmakers in the state House of Representatives are bracing for a fight over a bill that would require hospitals to provide victims of sexual assault with access to emergency contraception.
…
The measure, House Bill 288, would mandate that all hospitals, regardless of religious affiliation, provide victims with information about emergency contraception, alert them that the hospital can give it to them, and do so if requested.
…
The House’s full membership is scheduled to consider the bill today on second reading, which means it could be amended on the floor. A final vote could come as early as next week.
…
“If there is any chance that a life has been created, we believe it should be protected,” said Amy Beisel, spokeswoman for the Catholic Conference, which is lobbying against the bill.
Plan B contains a dose of the hormone levonorgestrel, also found in birth control pills. Plan B, however, contains a higher dose, which works to prevent pregnancy, mainly by stopping the release of an egg from the ovary.
It is possible that Plan B could also prevent fertilization of an egg released from the ovary, or attachment of the fertilized egg in the uterus.
It is the latter – preventing the attachment of a fertilized egg in the uterus – that the Catholic Conference and other antiabortion organizations oppose. For them, that is destroying a human life.

TAKE ACTION:
Pennsylvania Residents: E-mail your state representative to tell them to oppose House Bill 288. Tell them that scientists have shown the Morning-After Pill to sometimes cause newly-formed humans to be rejected by the woman’s uterus, thereby inducing a chemical abortion. While rape is a horrendous crime against any woman, it is wrong to introduce a second victim by killing the innocent child for a crime he did not commit. If you need to familiarize yourself with the abortifacient nature of the Morning-After Pill, click here to read FPN’s policy paper on the pill.
