FLASHBACK: Hate Crimes Bill Passes House (4/29/09)

By a 249-to-175 vote, the US House of Representatives passed the homosexual “hate crimes” expansion bill, successfully ensuring governmental protection and advocacy for deviant sexual practices like homosexuality and cross-dressing. It was a major victory for homosexual activists, who expect President Obama to sign it into law.
A common refrain among patriotic Americans is the phrase, “God bless America.” While these words evoke a nice sentiment in most hearers, they are quickly becoming a pointless platitude. This nation cannot be blessed by God as long as it defies His clear pronouncements on homosexuality (not to mention the pronouncement against the murder of innocent children). With this latest foray into homosexual activism, the American government has become an instrument of legitimization and approval for a practice that is clearly forbidden in Scripture.
Asking God to bless the current state of affairs in America is moot. God promises to punish nations that disregard His will. He spoke through the mouth of the Old Testament prophet Isaiah, saying, “Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil” (Is. 5:20 NKJV).
However, there is hope. When the city of Nineveh, which had been very evil in the sight of the Lord, wholeheartedly repented and sought God after Jonah’s preaching, God turned away His wrath and accepted their contrite spirits. God offers hope to nations who recognize the error of their sin and turn from it to embrace Him: “The instant I speak concerning a nation and concerning a kingdom, to pluck up, to pull down, and to destroy it, if that nation against whom I have spoken turns from its evil, I will relent of the disaster that I thought to bring upon it” (Jer. 18:7-8 NKJV).
Instead of trumpeting a presumptuous “God bless America”, we should be humbly begging, “God forgive America”.

April 20, 2009 – The U.S. House Judiciary Committee is scheduled to vote during the week of April 20th on a bill that adds “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” to the federal hate crimes statutes. Known officially as The Local Law Enforcement Hate Crimes Act of 2009 (H.R. 1913), this measure will add special legal protections for homosexuals and cross-dressing sexual deviants. While hate crimes protections have typically been reserved for inherent characteristics (e.g., skin color, sex, disability, or ethnicity), the proposed legislation will give increased protection for those who willfully choose to engage in immoral behavior.
Christians must realize that efforts to pass “hate crimes” legislation are part of a larger attempt by homosexual activists to portray sexually immoral behaviors as inherited traits and to legitimize their sin. By adding “sexual orientation” to hate crimes categories, the government extends legitimacy and approval to an immoral, unhealthy and potentially deadly lifestyle.
The bill, which is expected to pass the committee, will then advance to the House floor for a vote sometime in the spring of 2009. President Barack Obama has promised to sign the bill into law if it reaches his desk.
