Virginia Attorney General’s Refusal to Recognize “Sexual Orientation” Deemed Legal, Biblical

“Homosexual behavior is evil and immoral — and it’s clear all the way from the Old Testament in Leviticus [to] the New Testament in [passages like] Romans I and 1st Corinthians. — Romans 13 even tells us that government should promote righteousness and restrict evil and immorality.” – – FPN Policy Analyst Alexander Mason

Government should promote righteousness, restrict immorality

Virginia’s attorney general believes some anti-discrimination policies are unconstitutional, including those dealing with “sexual orientation.”

Virginia Attorney General Ken CuccinelliKenneth Cuccinelli told college presidents and other officials in a letter last week that they do not have the authority to establish anti-discrimination policies to protect homosexual and transgendered individuals — and he has advised them to rescind policies that do so (related article). Alexander Mason of the Family Policy Network in Virginia tells OneNewsNow that one needs look no further than the Bible to find how government should deal with immorality.

“Homosexual behavior is evil and immoral — and it’s clear all the way from the Old Testament in Leviticus [to] the New Testament in [passages like] Romans I and 1st Corinthians,” he counters. “Romans 13 even tells us that government should promote righteousness and restrict evil and immorality.”

It is good, says Mason, when government refuses to protect or reward immoral behavior like homosexuality with non-discrimination status. He finds the response to Cuccinelli’s letter to be a bit exaggerated.

“His approach is consistent with the last four attorneys general,” he explains. “[In fact] it’s the same opinion that’s been issued by the past four attorneys general, so it’s not like he’s breaking any new ground here.”

The Virginia constitution stipulates that only the legislature has the responsibility for making changes in areas such as anti-discrimination policies. Cuccinelli [correctly] argues that state institutions cannot adopt a policy position rejected by state lawmakers.
