2/2/12: Susan B. Koman Drops Planned Parenthood

Podcast: Download (Duration: 1:00 — 1.4MB)

The Susan G. Komen Foundation, a group that raises money for breast cancer research, says it will no longer partner with Planned Parenthood affiliates.

Planned Parenthood is the nation’s largest abortion provider, performing nearly 330,000 abortions in fiscal year 2010, while only making 841 adoption referrals during that time. Planned Parenthood has received hundreds of thousands of dollars annually for breast cancer prevention from Susan G. Komen. However, over the past year it became known that Planned Parenthood clinics do not perform mammograms but instead only perform manual breast exams. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has said that manual breast exams are not proven effective in screening for breast cancer; mammograms are needed.
