Attorney Mat Staver says a federal judge was right on the mark this week in deeming unconstitutional the “individual mandate” that is considered central to President Barack Obama’s controversial healthcare reform law.
The latest ruling involving ObamaCare deemed it unconstitutional to force people to buy health insurance — an element of the law otherwise known as the “individual mandate.” The case is one of more than 30 lawsuits winding their way through the U.S. court system as individuals and groups challenge the Obama administration’s signature healthcare reform law.
In his ruling, Judge Christopher C. Conner said the mandate that individuals buy health insurance or pay a penalty starting in 2014 is an unconstitutional extension of authority granted to the federal government under the Constitution’s commerce clause.
