9/1/11: Disabled Baby Thrown from Roof by Mother

Earlier this week police in Orange County, California arrested a woman after she allegedly threw her disabled 7-week-old son from atop a parking garage at Children’s Hospital.

The baby boy had been receiving treatment at the hospital for various birth defects.

Prosecutors allege that Sonia Hermosillo removed the helmet her son wore due to one of those birth defects just before throwing him from the parking garage. Hermosillo then returned to the hospital to validate her parking before driving away. Witnesses saw the baby falling and emergency personnel rushed him to the hospital, but sadly, the infant later died of his injuries. Hermosillo has been charged with murder and felony child abuse.

The heartbreaking story reminds us of the plight of thousands of childless couples who would’ve been happy to adopt the baby.
