American Media Used by Homosexual Activists to Normalize Sin

Over the last generation, homosexuality in American culture has quickly progressed from censured to celebrated. The astonishing pace at which this change has occurred is due largely to the influence of media over the minds and hearts of Americans.

Perhaps nowhere is the evidence of this cultural shift more visible than in American television, a medium utilized by almost every American.

Recent news stories indicate that the television network ABC Family became the second network (MTV was the first) to receive an excellent rating from a homosexual advocacy organization for its positive portrayal of homosexuals and so-called “transgenders.”

The rating comes from the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation in a report that grades broadcast and cable networks for the quantity and quality of homosexual characters and issues included in their programming.

More than half of ABC Family programming included gay characters or discussions about homosexuality. The network had the highest percentage of hours — 55 percent — that included gays or references to them. In a year, the network’s homosexual content rose 18 percent.

But anecdotal evidence would seem to show that it’s not just ABC Family (certainly a misnamed network) that’s rejecting the truth of Scripture in order to portray homosexuality in a positive light. Just try turning on almost any scripted (or even reality) television show without being exposed to a homosexual or “transgender” character who just wants to be “loved” and “accepted” for who they are.

It’s not a coincidence that these positive portrayals of sin and perversion are becoming more frequent. It’s actually part of a decades-long effort by homosexual activists to use the media to achieve normalization in the culture.

A book written by two homosexual activists in 1989 called After the Ball: How America Will Conquer Its Fear and Hatred of Gays in the 90′s is considered by many to be the “gay manifesto” for normalizing same-sex perversion in America. Authors Marshall Kirk and Hunter Madsen set forth this 383-page plan to legitimize homosexuality in part by utilizing the media (television, movies, theatre, etc.) to portray homosexuals in a positive light.

And although the media most often portrays homosexuals as fun-loving and tolerant, their ultimate objective is to silence everyone who will not yield to their celebration of perversion by joining with them to reject Biblical righteousness, especially in the area of sexual purity. For proof of this objective, read Kirk and Madsen’s clear statement in After the Ball:

[There are people] who feel compelled to adhere rigidly to an authoritarian belief structure (e.g., an orthodox religion), that condemns homosexuality. Our primary objective regarding die-hard homohaters of this sort is to cow and silence (emphasized by the authors) them as far as possible, not to convert or even desensitize them. (After the Ball, p. 176)

This strategy has paid huge dividends for homosexual activists since 1989. In recent years, homosexual activists have overturned laws against sodomy nationally, legalized so-called “gay marriage” in some states and even gained local school bans on criticism of homosexuality under the guise of preventing “bullying.” Theologian Albert Mohler writes:

In less than a single generation, homosexuality has gone from something almost universally understood to be sinful, to something now declared to be the moral equivalent of heterosexuality—and deserving of both legal protection and public encouragement.

This has happened in part because of the enormous influence that television and movies have on our collective conscience. Nowadays, most of what is referred to as “entertainment” is actually nothing more than the positive portrayal of a wholesale rejection of God’s standards on morality, especially with regard to sexuality.

Yet, many Christians watch certain immoral television shows religiously (pun intended), despite the fact that Scripture warns us to be careful of our associations:

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful…(Psalm 1:1)”

In whose counsel are you walking? In whose path are you standing? In whose seat are you sitting?

With what wisdom do you fill your mind, Christian? Hopefully, you are filling your mind with things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent and praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8), and surrounding yourself with those who promote and practice them.
