Human Life Begins at Conception
The question of when life begins is simple. In our modern scientific age, no one can deny that the human zygote resulting from the union of a sperm and an egg is fully human and deserving of protection as a person.
This is because the Bible and science show us that the newly formed life is:
-
- clearly human (he is not a dog or a tree),
-
- clearly alive (she is not dead),
-
- clearly actual (he is not just potential),
-
- clearly separate (she is not one with her mother or father),
-
- clearly unique (he is not an exact clone of anyone),
-
- clearly innocent (she is not responsible for the circumstances of conception, especially in cases of rape or incest)
-
- clearly created by God (“For You formed my inward parts…” Psalm 139:13) and
- clearly valued by God (“I am fearfully and wonderfully made…” Psalm 139:14)
These characteristics aren’t just pro-life talking points. They’re simple facts.
Genesis 1:27
So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.
