Many Christians Divided on Same Sex Marriage

A recent Pew Research poll shows that the public is divided evenly on the issue of same-sex “marriage” — even among Christians. According to the research, churchgoing America is still against homosexual “marriage,” while non-churchgoers are more in favor of it. White evangelicals and black Christians are the strongest opponents.

Mark Tooley of The Institute on Religion and Democracy notes, “The poll indicates that Catholics and mainline Protestants are evenly divided on same-sex marriage. Although I strongly suspect if those numbers are broken down further it would show that the actively churchgoing mainline Protestants and churchgoing Catholics are more inclined to oppose same-sex marriage.”

Meanwhile, 65 percent of Democrats support same-gender marriage, compared to 24 percent of Republicans.
