Newsweek Article Rejects God’s Design for Men and Women

The specter of a “genderless future” has been raised by a heavily biased magazine editorial that masquerades as an objective news story. The article, which appeared in the August 16, 2010 edition of Newsweek magazine, uses fawning language to describe the current worldwide battle to force government recognition of people who prefer not to be “bound” by the constraints of “gender.” Of course, the article is laden with positive references to the growing phenomenon while (unsurprisingly) devoid of ANY opposing viewpoint or perspective.

Newsweek rejects God’s design

The modern term “gender” is hijacked from an old Latin root word used primarily to describe grammatical categories. Now, the term typically replaces the word “sex” when designating maleness or femaleness, which begs the question: Why has our culture switched our vernacular away from the term “sex” to the term “gender”? The answer is quite simple. The term “gender” has been redefined to circumscribe the constraints of chromosomes, which are God-given and unbending in their dictation of a person’s maleness or femaleness. Postmodernists realized that if they could get away from such rigid terms as “sex,” they could separate a man or woman’s sexual proclivities from their sexual identity, which is established by God Himself. In other words, they are attempting to reject the created design for men and women in favor of flexible, societal ones. Individuals could claim a “gender” that contradicted their chromosomal makeup. Even the Newsweek article confirms this by quoting a so-called “expert” in the field, who said,

“Gender…develops between the biological and the environmental. You can’t always detect gender by physical evidence. You have to ask the person how they identify themselves; in that sense, it’s psychological.”

The “expert” continues:

“Gender isn’t synonymous with sex… Sex is assigned at birth based on the appearance of external genitalia. But to determine a person’s gender identity, you have to wait until they grow up and can describe how they identify their gender.”

Most people, including Christians, use the term “gender” frequently, perhaps so as to avoid the potentially blush-inducing term “sex.” But we shouldn’t. Indeed, the implications of our culture’s switchover to the term “gender” is far more damaging than a mere red face. Our culture’s acceptance of sexual deviancy in various forms can be attributed in part to this postmodern linguistic phenomenon. One needs to look no further than Newsweek magazine for ample proof.
