FPN Internship Opportunity

The FPN College Internship program is designed to give student participants hands-on experience with the administrative, strategic, technical and political work of a national non-profit, pro-family, activist organization.


Responsibilities
Under the guidance of an internship supervisor and on an as-needed basis, the intern will:

– Perform various administrative and clerical tasks, including organizing files, making copies, stuffing envelopes, etc.
– Help with general office communications by answering telephone calls and emails during normal business hours.
– Make phone calls to sample views of citizens, legislators and/or supporters on issues related the organization’s mission.
– Update the organization’s media list, calling media outlets to update contact information and verify proper email addresses.
– Research data related to the organization’s mission for use in donor correspondence, public policy papers and other materials
– Assist with donor relations, contacting supporters to update contact information and solicit feedback on organizational activities.
– Help keep the organization’s web site updated by posting news releases, news stories and other mission-related information.
– Track state and federal legislation in the organization’s legislative agenda
– Provide assistance in recruiting efforts to develop new grassroots volunteers in other parts of the country.
– Observe coalition meetings and conference calls whenever possible, to develop a broader view of strategies and objectives.
– Perform other various duties, as assigned by the supervisor.


Prerequisites:
In order to be considered for the FPN Internship Program, an applicant must posses the following:

– Experience: Applicant will preferably have a minimum of one year of experience working for political and/or public interest organization(s).

– Education: Applicant must be a high school graduate, with one year completed toward an accredited college or university degree in business, communications, government, organizational behavior or a related field of interest.

– Objectivity: Application must have no allegiances or interests that could or would directly or indirectly conflict with FPN’s mission, objectives, strategies, policies or procedures.

– Personal Characteristics: Applicant must: have a Christian worldview they can defend under scrutiny; work well with others; have an articulate and professional presence when dealing with the public; have a teachable attitude; be willing to perform repetitive and remedial tasks when asked; listen to and follow instructions well; maintain strict confidentiality; exhibit honesty and integrity in all matters.


Exclusions and Limitations:
Throughout the duration of the internship, the intern must not:

– Engage in any external communications of any kind regarding any actions, issues or circumstances related to the mission of FPN, except where explicitly defined in advance by supervisor.
– Discuss any subject with any member(s) of the media (broadly defined), except when instructed in advance by supervisor.
– Enter into any alliance, contract, relationship or any other agreement on behalf of the organization.
– Assume ownership of any intellectual property that is related to the actions, issues or circumstances emanating from the mission of FPN unless stated in writing by the president, executive director or determined by an action by the Board of Directors. (Intellectual property shall consist of, for example and without limitation: contact information, creative works, patentable subject matter, copyrightable materials, inventions, know-how, electronic or paper documents, software, multimedia or audiovisual materials, and photographs.)
