Obama: Abortion Enables “Our Daughters” To “Fulfill Their Dreams”

Sunday, January 22nd was the 39th anniversary of the infamous Roe vs. Wade decision. As other presidents have done, President Obama issued a statement on the anniversary expressing his opinion on abortion. While other presidents (e.g., Clinton) have expressed support for abortion while paying lip service to making them “safe, legal, and rare,” President Obama took a unapologetically pro-abortion approach in his statement.

Here is the first section of President Obama’s statement:

As we mark the 39th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, we must remember that this Supreme Court decision not only protects a woman’s health and reproductive freedom, but also affirms a broader principle: that government should not intrude on private family matters. I remain committed to protecting a woman’s right to choose and this fundamental constitutional right. While this is a sensitive and often divisive issue- no matter what our views, we must stay united in our determination to prevent unintended pregnancies, support pregnant woman and mothers, reduce the need for abortion, encourage healthy relationships, and promote adoption.

President Obama’s assertion that murder is a “private family matter” and even a “fundamental constitutional right” is audacious and immoral. However, perhaps most shocking is the last sentence in Obama’s statement:

And as we remember this historic anniversary, we must also continue our efforts to ensure that our daughters have the same rights, freedoms, and opportunities as our sons to fulfill their dreams.

Of course, the sad irony is that millions of America’s daughters will never see the light of day, much less have the “same rights, freedoms, and opportunities” as other Americans who escaped the abortionist’s knife. That such an irony goes unnoticed by the president is simply baffling.

Obama’s statement solidifies his commitment to the radical pro-abortion lobby. Obama is the most fanatically pro-abortion president since Roe vs. Wade was decided. And yet, he has mastered an ability to occasionally cloak his radicalism in conciliatory tones. Obama as a presidential candidate often described himself as “pro-choice, but not pro-abortion.” Indeed, many pro-lifers bought into his message of caring for “the least of these,” which was an allusion to Christ’s words in Matthew 25. But are the unborn not among the least?

Any government that seeks to protect human life outside the womb cannot rightfully ignore the innocent human life inside the womb. Not only is this common sense, it is biblical. Romans 13 describes the God-given duty of government as the promotion of righteousness and the restriction of evil. Abortion is evil because it destroys human life. It must be stopped. In a civilized society, the strong are held responsible by God to help the weak and the government is ordained by God to protect human life, especially human life that cannot protect itself. If any civilization does not respect the obligation to protect innocent life, it doesn’t qualify as “civilized.”

President Obama, as God’s magistrate (Romans 13:1), will be held accountable to God for his policies regarding abortion. More than 50 million Americans have been aborted since 1973, and their blood cries out for justice. Pray for our president and our nation (1 Timothy 2:1-3). Ask that God would change our president’s heart and the heart of our society to recognize the horrors of abortion and the beauty of the bearers of God’s image.
