IRS Still Targeting Conservatives
It appears the attack on conservative groups by the Internal Revenue Service continues. The New York Times reports that the IRS is investigating a group called “Friends of Abe” — a collection of 1,500 right-leaning actors in the entertainment industry.
Friends of Abe keeps a low profile and fiercely protects its membership list, to avoid what it presumes would result in a 21st-century blacklist.
The IRS is reviewing the group’s activities in connection with its application for tax-exempt status. Last week, federal tax authorities presented the group with a 10-point request for detailed information about its meetings with several politicians.
The application has been held up for two years by the IRS and included a demand from federal officials that would have disclosed the group’s membership.
