Tebow Cancellation “Disheartening”

Jets Quarterback Tim Tebow has canceled his scheduled appearance at First Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas. Some media are depicting the church’s pastor, Robert Jeffress, as “anti-gay” for opposing the sin of homosexuality and “bigoted” for consistently teaching Jesus Christ is the only way to Heaven.

Tebow was not specific about his reason for canceling. However, his tweets announcing the cancellation (right) clearly inferred he was uncomfortable with the controversy surrounding the venue.

FPN Policy Analyst Alex Mason called the news disheartening because Tebow, “seemed to be distancing himself from a church that merely echoes the words of Christ himself in John 14:6: ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except by Me.’ It’s unlikely that Tebow has adopted a heretical theology wherein people can reach Heaven apart from faith in Christ, but the message his cancellation sent is not a good one.”
