State Investigates Bakery that Refuses to Recognize Gay Marriage

The Oregon attorney general’s office is investigating a complaint against a Gresham bakery after a Portland woman said the business refused to make a cake for her wedding to another woman.

Aaron and Melissa Klein, the owners of Sweet Cakes, said same-sex marriage goes against their Christian faith.

Joe Glover, president of Family Policy Network calls the state’s investigation ridiculous. “Here’s a Christian couple with bible verses on their website of their cake making business and the Attorney General of the state of Oregon is on a witch hunt against them because they simply want to honor God’s definition of marriage in their business.”

The attorney general’s office is waiting for Sweet Cakes’ official account of the encounter before taking action. If the agency finds cause, it has the option of filing a discrimination complaint with the state Bureau of Labor and Industries.
