Homosexuals Continue to Drive HIV Infections
Male to male sexual activity continues to account for the overwhelming majority of new HIV infections in the United States, according a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
According to the CDC homosexual and bisexual men accounted for over three-fourths of the estimated new HIV infections among men. The CDC notes that while that group “represents approximately four percent of the male population” in the U.S., they account for almost two-thirds of all new HIV infections.
As for the what may be driving the increases in new HIV infections among homosexual men, the CDC points to “other studies” that have found a “higher prevalence of HIV among homosexual men, which leads to greater risk of HIV exposure,” and a “high proportion of young gays who are unaware of their infection.”
