4/2/12: GOP House Leadership Retreating on Opposition to Gay Marriage

Podcast: Download (Duration: 1:00 — 1.4MB)

Politico is pointing out that House Republicans are retreating on homosexual marriage. The political website says just a few years ago the group was doing all it could to prevent gay marriage and now they’re almost silent. What was once a front-and-center issue for rank-and-file Republicans — the subject of many hotly worded floor speeches — is virtually a dead issue, as Republicans in Congress don’t care to have gay marriage litigated in the Capitol.

Even more than that, according to Politico, the Republican leadership has quietly worked behind the scenes to kill amendments that reaffirm opposition to same-sex unions.

While on one hand Republicans say homosexuality is becoming more accepted in culture, on the other they say they’re attention has turned to economic issues.
