Family Policy Network President Obama is once again showing his propensity for doublespeak regarding abortion. The man who once declared the question of when life begins as above his pay grade recently held an economic townhall-style meeting where the issue of abortion was raised by a participant.

Obama, whose rhetorical skill allows him to answer questions without really answering them, began by explaining that abortions must be “safe, legal, and rare” while admitting that the “interests shift” once the unborn child is at a certain developmental stage, allowing for what he called “appropriate” restrictions on late-term abortions. The answer is classic Obama; it neither ingratiates nor alienates. Both liberals and conservatives would be dissatisfied with his answer for its ambiguity.

Speaking of abortions as “safe” and “legal” is dog-whistle politics at its best: His pro-abortion base knows the phrase means fully accessible abortions at any stage of the pregnancy. The term “rare” doesn’t mean that abortions will decrease. If anything, it merely means that surgical abortions might stay at the same level or slightly decrease. However, it is an INCREASE in chemical abortions that allows for this leveling in surgical abortion incidences. This chemical abortion increase is accomplished through the wider distribution of abortive contraceptives like the birth control pills, patches, rings, etc. Such is the goal of the Obama administration — spending taxpayer dollars in the distribution of free (abortive) contraceptives.

Furthermore, President Obama would do well to be honest about his own voting history when it comes to late-term abortions. While an Illinois state senator, he voted against a bill that would mandate medical care for babies born alive after abortions. If the interests have truly “shifted” from that of the mother to the child after a certain point, why then did he vote against protecting those children, even after they are born?

President Obama isn’t doing himself any favors by remaining cryptic on the issue of abortion. His liberal, pro-abortion base is demotivated with his verbal defection on “late-term abortions” and most pro-lifers see his obfuscation for what it is: duplicitous doublespeak.

Family Policy Network By now you may have heard of NJ Gov. Christie’s veto that shut down a Planned Parenthood clinic in the state. At first glance, the news looks promising for Christie’s pro-life credentials. However, further examination reveals that Gov. Christie’s actions are not as pro-life as some claim. First, the clinic which is being closed is not even one that performs abortions; it is a referral clinic. Second, Christie’s office has assured the media that the state will continue to fund abortion at the other clinics in the state.

Christie’s office has even made efforts to distance him from an ideological stance on abortion, citing purely financial reasons for the cutbacks. According to his press secretary, “From the beginning when we had to veto the $7.5 million funding restoration, it was purely on fiscal grounds. We just don’t have the money.” The staffer continued, “Women’s reproductive services, including abortions, will continue to be funded by a mix of state and federal funding.”

So much for a pro-life governor.

Family Policy Network Most news articles addressing the proposed repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” cite statistics that indicate a majority of civilian support for reversing the policy. The latest survey shows that most US Marines are “predominantly” opposed to reversing DADT. http://www.breitbart.com/article.php?id=CNG.cdbd2b154ad95ddc18e1c1f6b34bc213.681&show_article=1

There is no “law” implementing so-called “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” Federal law states that homosexual behavior is incompatible with military service, period, and is thus prohibited. DADT was the Clinton Administration’s executive order by which to purposely fail to enforce the federal prohibition. Rather than play word games, i.e., DADT, the actual federal law should be enforced by returning to the pre-Clinton policy of asking enlistees if they consider themselves homosexual, and then (1) barring the enlistment of those who answer in the affirmative and (2) discharging those later found to have lied in responding.

Family Policy Network FLASHBACK: In a widely-read column from 2008, (in)famous feminist Camile Paglia openly admits abortion is murder, yet still supports the barbaric practice.

Behold the future of the abortion debate. No one who has recently looked at a biology textbook can, with a straight face, deny that the union of a human egg and human sperm results in the creation of new human life, not a mere “clump of tissue.”

Since the humanity of the unborn has become so patently obvious, most abortion-on-demand advocates, realizing they can no longer win the arguments with science, have shifted the debate to one over personhood. In other words, they argue that just because those quickly developing cells are human doesn’t mean they constitute a “person.” Since the woman who is pregnant is a “person,” her rights trump those of the innocent unborn child, who is a “non-person.”

Read page four of the article for a bleak look into the pro-abortion psyche for the new millennium.

Family Policy Network A recent article details a former congressman promising that a Republican majority would take up issues like abortion after victory in November. But don’t get your hopes up.

Republicans have a long history of breaking their (election) promises to stop the murder of children in our culture. Why is it that supposedly pro-life Republicans have not succeeded in stopping abortion even though they’ve controlled the legislative and executive branches at numerous times and for long spans since 1973? It’s because, for the most part, politicians (both parties included) don’t REALLY want to end abortion. Rather, many see abortion as an election issue whereby they can excite their constituents to keep putting them back in office. As long as pro-life voters fail to demand accountability from politicians regarding election promises, little to nothing of consequence will ever be accomplished in the pro-life fight.

Don’t believe everything you hear from politicians, especially around election time.

Family Policy Network Possible 2012 presidential contender Haley Barbour is telling fellow Republicans that social issues are a losing cause in this election cycle. Barbour advised Republicans seeking office to concentrate on economic issues rather than social issues like abortion, because that issue “ain’t gonna change anybody’s vote.”

Unlike Gov. Barbour, FPN remains committed to championing a Biblical perspective on the social issues, regardless of election trends. We are also confident that there are millions of Christians in this country who still see the murder of innocent children as infinitely more important than any particular economic environment. Protection of the innocent is a foundational function of government (Rom. 13). If the innocent are butchered, of what eternal significance is a flourishing economy?

Family Policy Network TV programs will begin glamorizing polygamy this Fall. This New York Post article details two new programs scheduled to debut later this month that will no doubt start legitimizing polygamy in some American minds.
Pro-homosexual activists criticize you for pointing out that societal acceptance of homosexual “marriage” will eventually lead to the popularization and legitimization of other forms of sexual (dis)orientation like polygamy and bestiality. Well, this article is the smoking gun to prove they’re wrong. As the percentage of Americans who believe homosexuality is wrong continues to shrink, the arbiters of American culture (TV and movie execs.) will continue to resurrect old concepts like polygamy in an effort to sear your conscience against Biblical sexual standards.
