Federal HIV “Prevention” Strategy Will Encourage Behaviors that Cause It
The Obama administration’s Office of National AIDS Policy recently published a strategy report detailing plans to try to reduce the rate of new HIV infections. The report admits no progress on AIDS can be made in America without “better addressing” the problem among homosexuals. However, the methods by which the report suggests doing that are more likely to encourage the behaviors that cause HIV to spread.
Here are some stats included among the administration’s findings:
– Homosexual and bisexual men of all races are the only group in the United States where the estimated number of new HIV infections is rising annually.
– Homosexuals are 44 to 86 times more likely to become infected with HIV than other men, and 40 to 77 times more likely to become infected than women.
– Approximately one-half of the 1.1 million persons living with HIV in the United States are homosexual and bisexual men, and they account for the majority (53 percent) of new HIV infections each year.
One would think a study that links homosexuality to the spread of HIV would discourage its practice. Unfortunately, the strategies proposed by the Obama Administration’s report are more likely to tamp down religious and political opposition to homosexuality than to prevent further incidents of HIV. While the report does suggest mentioning abstinence as a way to “reduce” the risk of contracting HIV, it also promotes ideas that will serve to encourage homosexual behavior, including:
– Urge people to consider “limiting the number of partners” they have sex with
– Taxpayer-funded condom distribution
– “Anti-retroviral therapy by high-risk uninfected populations, such as by HIV-negative individuals in committed relationships [sic] with HIV-positive individuals.”
The fact is, consequences resulting from sustained sexual immorality are physically devastating. Any strategy to avoid the consequences of sin without avoiding the sin itself will ultimately fail. HIV/AIDS has long been predominantly a homosexual problem, and now our government wants to spend your tax dollars to allay the results of homosexuality without addressing the root cause, which is sin.
The Bible makes it very clear that God condemns all sexually immoral behavior – – including homosexuality. Dire consequences are recorded and predicted, both for individuals who practice the behavior and for communities that promote it. Read Genesis 19, Leviticus 18:22, Leviticus 20:13, Romans 1:26-27, 1 Corinthians 6:9-11, 1 Timothy 1:10, 2 Peter 2: 6-10, and Jude 6-7.
The only way to prevent the consequences associated with sexual immorality is to stop engaging in it. The White House shouldn’t be endorsing such sinful behavior, and taxpayers shouldn’t have to pay for it.
TAKE ACTION:
Write to the White House to explain the strategies proposed by the Office of National AIDS Policy is likely to INCREASE HIV infections, rather than decrease them. Let them know you don’t want your tax dollars used to promote sexual immorality the Bible clearly forbids.
