Christians Must Fight Wherever the Battle Rages

“If I profess, with the loudest voice and the clearest exposition, every portion of the truth of God except precisely that little point which the world and the devil are at that moment attacking, I am not confessing Christ, however boldly I may be professing Christianity. Where the battle rages the loyalty of the soldier is proved; and to be steady on all the battle-field besides is mere flight and disgrace to him if he flinches at that one point.”

Family Policy Network encounters fierce hostility from homosexual activists over our opposition to the legitimization of homosexual behavior in society. This opposition is to be expected (John 15:18), but is hardly worthy of being called persecution when compared to the physical sufferings of Christians in other parts of the world. The opposition we experience often comes in the form of hateful emails from individuals criticizing our efforts to call out sin in the public square using a Biblical perspective. These critics of our methodology often point out our supposed “hypocrisy” for not addressing other sins like gluttony or jealousy.

Their common refrain, “Why don’t you oppose [insert any sin here] instead of homosexuality?”, is a tactic intended to be both distracting and deflecting. For those who want to justify certain sins, distraction is used to commandeer the debate and deflection is used to change the subject. The end goal is an argument about a unrelated issue.

FPN’s activity is driven by Scripture, which indicates that sexual sin should be viewed differently: “Flee sexual immorality. Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body” (I Corinthians 6:18). As Pastor Ken Silvia has rightfully pointed out, this verse shows that God has chosen “to set all other sins apart from sexual immorality, which itself includes all sexual relations outside of marriage…whether [they] be homosexual or heterosexual.”

FPN is committed to calling out sin in the public square, wherever it may be found. Our mission is to “inform Christians and confront the culture on the important moral issues of the day.” This is why FPN opposes attempts to legitimize any kind of sexual immorality in the culture, be it pornography, no-fault divorce, or public school sex education.

However, one of the most pressing modern-day cultural issues is the battle over the legitimization of homosexuality in society.

When was the last time you heard of a multi-million dollar political organization whose sole purpose for existence is the legitimization of divorce? What about an organization with headquarters in Washington, D.C. whose purpose is to promote adultery and protections under the law for those who practice it? Ever heard of any such groups?

You haven’t, because there aren’t any.

There are, however, organizations that promote the normalization of homosexual sin within American culture and government. These groups are extremely well-funded, and spare no expense in their efforts to influence legislation, elections, and public opinion. The deceptively-named Human Rights Campaign (HRC) is the largest “gay rights” organization in America. Its budget in 2009 alone was $41 million. Keep in mind, HRC is just one of several national “gay rights” groups. There are also scores of well-funded state and local-level groups committed to advancing the cause of so-called “gay rights.”

These groups will never rest in their quest to normalize homosexuality and discredit Biblical sexual morality in society.

So, by God’s grace, Family Policy Network will continue to fight where the battle is most fierce. As long as there is a concerted effort to call good that which God has called evil, FPN will continue to confront the culture and inform Christians. We ask that you would regularly pray for us, asking that God would grant the courage of conviction rooted in Scripture and an ever-present awareness of the dire need for the Gospel of Jesus Christ in America.

2 Corinthians 6:9-11

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.(NKJV)
