School officials and teacher organizations in Louisiana are joining forces to block the state’s new school-choice program. The Louisiana School Boards Association and 34 school boards have joined with the Louisiana Federation of Teachers to challenge the constitutionality of public funds being used for the state’s new school-voucher program.
Jeff Reed of The Friedman Foundation for Educational Choice says school-choice opponents are quick to go to court adding, ”It’s sad that those opposed to school choice want to keep those families who clearly are engaged and wanting to give their kids a better education — it’s really quite sad that those opposed to school choice think those families have to be stuck with under-performing schools.”
More families have applied for the vouchers than the number available.
