Obama’s State of the Union Address Uses Pro-Gay Fallacy
Unsurprisingly, President Obama’s State of the Union speech contained pro-homosexual rhetoric: “Our troops come from every corner of this country -– they’re black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American. They are Christian and Hindu, Jewish and Muslim. And, yes, we know that some of them are gay. Starting this year, no American will be forbidden from serving the country they love because of who they love.” [FPN’s emphasis]
This is a fallacy commonly cited by homosexual activists. We can no more make a homosexual love a member of the opposite sex than we can make the sun rise and set. That’s not an issue of public policy. The real question is whether a government promotes and legitimizes a destructive and sinful behavior by allowing it to be openly practiced in the military.
Governments and laws will never change the heart of any sinner (including homosexuals). That is solely a job for Jesus Christ. However, governments are charged with the duty (Romans 13) to promote good and restrict evil insofar as it affects society.
As such, governments should not promote homosexual behavior by endorsing it in the military. Essentially, our government has called good that which is evil.
Romans 13:1-6
Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God. Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same. For he is God’s minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God’s minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil. Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience’ sake. For because of this you also pay taxes, for they are God’s ministers attending continually to this very thing.
