National Leaders Ignoring Marriage

A new report from the National Marriage Project and the Center for Marriage and Families says national leaders need to start focusing on ways to stem the demise of marriage among the “forgotten 60 percent” of Americans in Middle America. The 60 percent refers to those who have completed high school, but do not have a four-year college degree.

Among this group of Americans, 44 percent of children are born outside of marriage, representing a huge increase since the 1980s, when only 13 percent of children were born to unmarried parents. It also shows that cohabitation is increasingly more common than marriage among parents in Middle America.

The essay laments that, “as a nation we have devoted scant attention to the rapid disappearance of marriage in Middle America.”

Matthew 19:4-6
And [Jesus] answered and said to them, “Have you not read that He who made them at the beginning ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh’? So then, they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let not man separate.”
