Progress Being Made in War Against Human Trafficking

A new report shows that the majority of states have enacted laws to fight human trafficking.

The Polaris Project report rates all 50 states and the District of Columbia based on 10 categories of laws that are “critical to a basic framework that combats human trafficking, punishes traffickers, and supports survivors.”

The report found that 21 states ranked as “Tier 1” states that are defined as those that “have passed significant laws to combat human trafficking.” Sixteen states were ranked having “numerous laws to combat human trafficking” but needing more work and nine others were found to have made “nominal efforts to combat human trafficking.”

Wyoming, Arkansas, Montana and South Dakota were ranked at the bottom for not making even nominal efforts to combat human trafficking.
