Churches Can be Involved in Public Schools

With the a new school year kicking off, an organization devoted to promoting religious freedom is telling churches legal ways they can get involved in public schools.

Many churches shy away from public schools because they fear violating “separation of church and state” laws. But Matt Sharp of the Alliance Defending Freedom says churches have the same rights other public organizations enjoy in public schools.

One good way for churches to interact with public school students is to start an after-school club. Sharp points out that “The courts have consistently held that churches have a right to that same access, the same right as the Boy Scouts and other community groups to form these after-school clubs.”
Sharp says “See You at the Pole” events are also allowed.
