RALEIGH, NC – Carolina Hurricanes player Ray Whitney’s potty mouth may cost NBC affiliates in the west big bucks, if the Family Policy Network gets its way.
Joe Glover, the president of the Virginia-based conservative Christian group, said Thursday that he plans to put out an alert for viewers in Pacific and Mountain time zones, who would have heard Whitney loudly exclaim a four-letter expletive during a celebratory postgame moment after the Canes beat the Edmonton Oilers 3-1 Monday for the Stanley Cup.
“It was a deliberate action for them to put a live mike in front of hockey players after a Stanley Cup final,” Glover said. “That’s just ludicrous to think that children aren’t watching. That’s deliberate negligence on the part of NBC, and we intend to make them pay a price for it.” Glover said that NBC should have used a five-second delay.
