(Washington Times – 4/27/07) - Activists on both side of the homosexual “marriage” issue are ready with legislation and additional lawsuits no matter which way the Maryland Court of Appeals rules on a pivotal case. “Everybody is just waiting with bated breath,” said Sen. Janet Greenip, Anne Arundel County Republican. “The thing that bothers me is this is a very small minority trying to dictate how we do business for everybody.” The appeals court’s seven judges heard arguments in December on whether they should allow homosexual “marriage” but have yet to rule on the case. Depending on how the court rules, both sides are prepared to file bills in the 2008 session.

Just a few days after the U.S. Senate defeated a proposed constitutional amendment to define marriage as a union between a man and a woman, FPN Policy Analyst Alex Mason discussed efforts to protect the family in a live interview on Baltimore, Maryland radio station WCBM.
AgapePress reports that FPN President Joe Glover is calling for the resignation of the speaker of the Maryland House of Delegates. He accuses the lawmaker of subverting the will of the people. Many pro-family voters in Maryland were hoping to have a chance this fall to vote on an amendment to the state constitution defining marriage as the union between a man and a woman. But shortly before state lawmakers were to vote on a measure last month that would send a marriage protection amendment to voters, the speaker of Maryland’s House of Delegates abruptly recessed the day’s session so the bill could be killed in committee.

[Annapolis 1/20/06] – Baltimore City Circuit Judge M. Brooke Murdock today overturned Maryland’s longstanding law of marriage between one man and one woman, prompting this response from a state pro-family organization:
“This judge has redefined words and changed the law on a whim,†said Family Policy Network of Maryland Director Tres Kerns. “She’s wrong on all counts and is ignoring the clear intent of the legislature when it passed this law. She’s also ignoring biology, our heritage and common sense.â€
Montgomery County, MD – On May 23, the Montgomery County School Board voted to completely scrap a controversial sex education curriculum that was the subject of a federal lawsuit by Liberty Counsel and also voted to reconstitute the advisory committee that recommended adoption of the curriculum. Liberty Counsel represents Parents and Friends of Ex-Gays and Gays (“PFOX”) and Citizens for a Responsible Curriculum (“CRC”) in the lawsuit against the school district.
