William & Mary President Fired After Porn Controversy

Gene Nichol, the president of the historic College of William & Mary who ordered a cross removed from the campus chapel and approved presentation of a sex show, has quit after being told his contract would not be renewed this summer.

A report in the Virginian-Pilot said Nichol abandoned any responsibilities he would have had during the remaining few months of his contract when the rector of the Williamsburg, Va., college’s governing Board of Visitors told him his contract would not be renewed on its expiration in June.

At Colonial Williamsburg, two approaches to history were in sharp relief this past Veterans Day weekend.

In the restored old colonial capital on a bright, sunny afternoon, a revolutionary fife and drum corps marched, as is their custom, down the leaf-strewn street. But this time, they had a brace of continental soldiers behind them, followed by about 125 men of varying ages in modern clothes, many wearing VFW hats, American Legion regalia and medals.

VA Governor Rejects Federal Funds for Abstinence Programs in Schools

Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine made his state the fourteenth to reject federal funds for abstinence education. The decision, which affects nearly 15 nonprofit programs, raises the number of states that have rejected the funds to help teenagers avoid abortions by initially avoiding sexual relations.

Grand Jury Indicts Owner of Staunton, VA Porn Store

The Staunton grand jury indicted a Manassas man and his company Thursday on 16 felony obscenity charges concerning adult videos that were sold in October at After Hours Video, according to Staunton Prosecutor Raymond C. Robertson.

In four multi-count indictments, Rick E. Krial, 40, is charged with eight felony and four misdemeanor counts of selling obscene videos. Krial’s company, LSP of Virginia, LLC, was hit with identical charges.
