Four firefighters are suing the city of San Diego for being forced by their superiors to attend the annual “Gay Pride” parade where they endured a barrage of sexual taunts and lewd gestures. San Diego’s fire chief, Tracy Jarman, is an open lesbian who called the July 21 parade a “fun event” in which “all employees are encouraged to participate.” But the firefighters said, unlike previous years, they were ordered into uniform to participate in the parade in their fire truck, despite their repeated protests.

A San Diego public school has become part of a national debate over religion in schools ever since a substitute teacher publicly condemned an Arabic language program that gives Muslim students time for prayer during school hours.
California lawmakers, under two proposals that have advanced in the state legislature, are trying to hand out the rights that historically have belonged to married couples to any duo, married or not, including same-sex partners. Senate Bill 11, authored by state Sen. Carole Migden of San Francisco, has been approved by a state Assembly committee, and would give all the rights of marriage to unmarried men and women. And Assembly Bill 43, which also has been endorsed, would require every community in the state to endorse same-sex marriages.
California Supt. of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell, under whose supervision hundreds of thousands of children are being educated, has used his state position and taxpayer-funded stationery to praise a “gay” pride event that has been used in the past to expose children to sexually explicit activities.
