Library Employee Fired For Reporting Patron’s Use Of Child Pornography
On February 28, while working at the Lindsay Branch Library, Brenda Biesterfeld, a Librarian Assistant, reported to police that a library patron was viewing child pornography on one of the public-use computers in the library. Two days later and without explanation, Biesterfeld was terminated.
The firing of Biesterfeld has outraged the Lindsay community and has raised concerns over how the Library responds to the viewing of illegal child pornography on library property

A bill ensuring that unwed parents remain unmarried is receiving strong opposition from a leading California-based pro-family organization. Campaign for Children and Families (CCF) President Randy Thomasson criticized the proposal by saying, “SB 1066 rewards unwed parents for not getting married.” He added, “This foolish bill promotes cohabitation just as government welfare programs subsidized illegitimacy. SB 1066 ensures that unwed parents remain uncommitted. Why get married if you can get the legal rights and benefits of marriage without saying ‘I do?’ And what about the kids, who research shows do much worse in unmarried environments? SB 1066 is bad public policy. It’s blind to the evidence that marriage is 1000 percent more stable than shacking up.”

[3/3/08 - REUTERS] - The California Supreme Court appeared divided on Tuesday, [March 5, 2008] over whether to allow gay marriage during nearly four hours of oral arguments on the contentious issue that could impact gay rights nationwide. The top court now has [until June 2, 2008] to issue an opinion, with a decision before May unlikely. Six of the judges were appointed by Republican governors and one by a Democrat and the panel is considered politically moderate.
UCLA Student Newspaper Exposes Racism at Planned Parenthood
[LOS ANGELES - 2/27/08] - A student magazine at UCLA has released phone recordings of Planned Parenthood staffers approving a donor’s racist agenda, prompting students to begin a petition to request that UCLA administrators cut programs and affiliations with Planned Parenthood. The magazine conducted a seven-state probe to ascertain how Planned Parenthood development centers would respond to a caller who expressed explicitly racist motives behind his donation.
